Many of those who contact me will ask me what I “believe” about this or that. Some of those wrestling with the message of Jesus will talk about maintaining their “Christian faith,” as if having faith were a positive thing. For years I have thought most people were going to outgrow such a lazy way of thinking, but I guess it’s time to say this plainly.
Beliefs are intellectual and spiritual nonsense. We are better off without them!
The fact that humankind is so prone to accepting beliefs as sufficient explanations probably began as a survival tool. Back when it was impossible to know where the rain came from or what happened after death, we thought up comforting beliefs that allayed our fears and made us feel sufficiently powerful to live at peace in this material world. But the problem is that the nimbleness with which we develop our beliefs and cling to them beyond all reason has become an active barrier to our ever really knowing anything.
We can see this problem most easily with religions. People who adhere to a preferred 
religion are fond of calling themselves “people of faith,” but faith is not a virtue! It’s a cop-out. It is the frank equivalent of saying “I don’t really know what’s going on, but I’m scared that it might be something bad so instead of trying to learn the truth I am going to cling to this happy story.” For Christians such a posture is inexcusable, since it flies in the face of the words of Jesus! He said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (MT 7:7-8). And “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (JN 8:31-32) Free from what? Why, free from merely believing! But Christians seldom listen to Jesus.
And I was reminded again of how badly holding to old beliefs has led mainstream science off course when I came across two more articles about the notion in scientific vogue right now that something like human immortality can be achieved electronically. This sort of thing is the inevitable end-state of scientists clinging to old beliefs and refusing to consider evidence that refutes them.
The false belief so badly distorting mainstream scientists’ ability to come to terms with reality is the notion that solid matter exists, when in fact the core discovery of quantum mechanics – now a full century into the past – is that in fact everything is energy. As no less a light than Nikola Tesla said, “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.” And Max Planck, the father of quantum theory, said way back in 1931, ”I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.” By 1944 he was concluding that “There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.”
These scientific geniuses were exactly right! And even despite their insights, to this day scientists have little ability even to understand what consciousness might be. But despite their bumbling, it is now generally understood that even the smallest subatomic particle is merely a vortex of energy. So for mainstream scientists to cling to the belief that consciousness is generated by our material brains is the exact equivalent of believing that your television generates the evening news! Your brain is a receiver and transmitter
of your consciousness, and nothing more. But scientists have made an old, nonsensical belief in the solidity of matter the very foundation of modern science, so they also must cling to the erroneous belief that your meat-brain generates who you are. It is hard to know whether to laugh or cry!
Unless we can free ourselves from our ancient attachment to forming and retaining beliefs, humankind is going to remain stuck in this nonsensical acceptance of fictional shortcuts. In perfect fact, believing anything is useless in an age when it is possible to know!

Many go through life with those two poor companions but, like yourself, I prefer understanding and knowing, even though we took different paths to find them. 😉

Beautifully written! Pellucid treatise on the nature of belief and conviction. Only that which each and everyone has experienced in fullness, and all its variegated forms, could, in essence, become an integral part of us. Do away with belief systems, which not only shackle the pure essence of Man but prevent us from ascending into higher realities of existence. Belief must become Conviction! And conviction comes by knowing…

Oh how true, Roberta. I was discussing the illusory nature of solid matter a few days ago, with my sister-in-law, Jenny, (widowed, following the transition of my brother in 2015). She actually listened attentively, but I’m not sure she took on board the notion that nothing is solid, as we know it. In trying to discuss the concepts of atomic vibrational rates and its more recent corollary that in the end everything actually boils down to pulses of light, I imagine she probably ‘tuned out’. And who can blame her? To think that the most solid matter is, in the end, light, blows my mind too. Given that Jenny’s daughter is an ardent Baptist who might (would) bomb-out all such discussion, I alluded to the biblical words, “And God said, ‘Let there be light’ ” in the hope of suggesting to her that modern science appeared to be corroborating the standard religious view.

This is perfect, Roberta! I was having this conversation with someone just a couple of days ago. I would have been Doubting Thomas had I been around when Jesus was risen. Let me stick my finger in the hole. I want to KNOW. People believed in Jesus not based only on what He said, but what He was able to do.
If our “faith” is in something real, it should stand up to scrutiny. There’s nothing wrong with having faith if something is unknowable. But, if we can explore it, let’s explore it. And let’s not have faith in what is demonstrably false.

With you on this! You often refer to Max Planck. This most brilliant physicist in his presentation of his new unit system to the Prussian Academy of Sciences in May 1899 stated, “These necessarily retain their meaning for all times and all civilizations, even extraterrestrial and non-human ones, and can therefore be designated as natural Units.” Max Planck didn’t present his unit of measure based on faith in using the term, “non-human ones”. The link between the physical and the non-physical therefore must be at the threshold of Planck time and Planck length, if not transcendent. There’s one particular wave/particle that appears to exist right in between or possibly in both the physical and non-physical realms, and that’s the photon – light. There are others that appear to do this also, but I mention the photon for simplicity. Today so many puzzle pieces are available for one that “seeks” therefore unveiling the tenet of blind faith that can keep one blind. Conversely, this also applies to physicists who have stagnated at that threshold, only believing in what they can “see”.
Hello Ivanhoe! Thank you for commenting here, and especially for pointing out that our admonition about refusing to settle for mere beliefs applies equally well to physicists! Sadly, Scientific American has become my favorite humor magazine, since scientists have tied themselves in knots by treating materialism even today as “the fundamental scientific dogma.” So often as I read about another problem that physicists are having trouble solving, I am able to realize what the answer is likely to be… and I have never taken a physics course nor even a single course in science beyond high school chemistry!
I think the only reason we can’t see the spirit world and other dimensions is because of the difference in vibration. Here on earth the vibration is heavy but is in tune with the vibration of our physical bodies.We see very little of what is actually out there, and the spirit world, for instance, is invisible to us due to its higher vibration. Therefore, only believing in what you can see is the height of ignorance. That’s why it’s so hard for me to understand why supposedly brilliant scientists stick to their old paradigm.
So true, of course! Believing in only what you can see is just as nonsensical as it is to believe in what you can’t see just because hundreds or thousands of years ago someone said that you should. My radio program is called Seek Reality, because in truth that is what we all should be doing!!

This missive of yours is most powerful. I love that you called faith on the carpet. Growing up Catholic, it always fried my ankles that the adults in my life advised me to NOT question and just accept what I was told. Balderdash! Thanks for giving me permission to think outside the blind faith.
Oh, you’re very welcome, Mark Beth! What thrills me is finding that all those fear-based warnings our elders used to give us – only trying to protect us, mind you – were totally unnecessary! The truth about spiritual reality is devoid of anything that can possibly harm us, and all of it is more wonderful than our most optimistic imaginings!
roberta, what about us who have seen some of these truths their whole life, and have been scared shitless by them? maybe the brain filters out stuff for a reason. maybe it is best not to remember… i really don’t know, and afraid to find out that things are scarier than i even thought they were…….
Dear Lisa, there is nothing whatsoever about the genuine truth that ever can harm you. Nothing! Once you really grasp what is going on, you will find it impossible to ever again be afraid – please trust me on that! Jesus is right – the truth really does set you free ;-).

I love your material, but, I’m a little stuck.
I want to believe/know that there’s a part of my daughter that still exists. But how can I KNOW?
I’ve read so much and have tried so many methods, but I can’t find her. I don’t know that she’s here.
How can I do that?

Hello Dana! Not only a part of your daughter, but your entire daughter, whole and well – everything she was while she was in a body – all of her not only exists, but lives more fully and completely than before! So why has she been unable to convince you of that fact? Here are some of the most common reasons why this kind of disconnect can happen:
1) You seem to be very deep in the negative energies of grief and fear. I know this is absolutely unfair and counterproductive, but nevertheless it’s true: your deep grief and fear may be most of your problem. Such emotions are very low-energy – they are the literal opposite of love – and they can effectively block communication between us and those that we used to think were dead.
2) Much of what our transitioned loved ones do to demonstrate to us their survival is both subtle and unexpected. You might, for example, be hoping for a voice or a materialization, so you ignore the fact that six times today in one way or another you have seen (and ignored) representations of yellow roses (we’re assuming yellow roses were your daughter’s favorite flower) or you’ve been finding at least four dimes a day lying where dimes shouldn’t be. It’s very important that people looking for signs learn what the most common signs are, and really open their minds!
3) Perhaps you aren’t reaching out and asking for what you need. Many of those who are most deeply bereaved are afraid to ask, because what if there is no answer? Will that mean that the loved one really does no longer exist? You can hedge by saying before you go to sleep something like, “(Name), I love you and I miss you! If you feel like doing it, please let me have a vivid dream of you or see something tomorrow that I will really know is a message from you.” Be patient, because it can take a while before such requests are answered. And if yours seems never to be answered, you can know that perhaps your daughter didn’t want to do it for whatever reason (including perhaps for your own spiritual growth) – since it wasn’t a command performance but it was only a suggestion. Therefore your not getting a response doesn’t mean anything.
4) I don’t know what you’ve read, but it’s important that you steep your mind in only the right stuff! Subscribe to the Zammits’ Friday report (go to VictorZammit.com – it’s free, and it’s such a wonderful compilation of so many different kinds of amazing afterlife evidence that it will let you marinate your mind in the truth until it becomes impossible for you any more to resist being certain that human life really is eternal!
5) Begin to reach out and help other people. Join Helping Parents Heal, which is a wonderful organization where grieving parents do just that for one another. HPH will put on its first conference April 13-15 of 2018 in the same hotel where AREI held its 2018 Symposium (see my subsequent blog post). Many HPH parents were there with us, and their love and their intense ongoing bond with their children were big reasons why our event was so successful!
