I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
Charles A. Miles (1868-1946), from “In the Garden” (1913)

Since research scientists’ mandate is to study just what is material, to this day they spend their entire careers attempting to make ever better sense of what even they know is only a mere five percent of this universe. Okay, so why do I say that scientist are studying just five percent of what exists, you ask? Well, they tell us that fully 95% of our universe is non-material. They call it “dark”, because it won’t react with photons of material light. So, they refer to 27% of the universe as a non-material kind of matter, while 68% is a non-material form of energy. And we afterlife researchers note that and think, Well, hooray! Our scientist friends have discovered the astral plane! Because we long have known that there are immense non-material but nevertheless solid-seeming astral realities in precisely the same place where we are now, and at subtly higher vibrations, just as there are many channels all in the same place that you can pick up on your television. So, scientists have found the astral plane! Well, good for them, and very affirming for us as afterlife researchers. And of course, Nobel Prize-winning scientist Max Planck discovered the primacy of consciousness back in the first few decades of the twentieth century, so consciousness may well be that mysterious 68% that scientists call “dark energy”. Dr. Planck said in 1931, “I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness! Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.”

He said a lot of other amazing things about consciousness as well. Other scientists soon were taking their cues from Dr. Planck, no matter what the scientific gatekeepers may have thought about it. Including, you may be surprised to hear, Planck’s near-contemporary, the inimitable Albert Einstein. Toward the end of his life, Einstein was actually saying things like, “Concerning matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. There is no matter.” Dr. Einstein was a good and sensible man!

In the end, consciousness really is all there is. Everything else that seems to us to be real, and solid, is in the nature of a thought within consciousness. Even when we begin with mainstream science’s solidly materialist assumptions, and then we follow the totality of the available evidence, which includes, of course all the afterlife evidence because that is evidence as well; then there really is no other sensible conclusion that can be drawn. What this means is that, far from being something vague and ephemeral, which is how consciousness feels to us because we cannot see or touch it, consciousness is inconceivably powerful. And, good grief, consciousness is in fact governed by what you and I feel as human emotion. What? Get out of here! Wow. Are we being serious? Are we saying that in this solid-seeming and serious-as-a-heart-attack-feeling material world, the world of science, no joke, that is the way that all of reality actually must be understood? Well, yes, sorry to have to break this news to you so bluntly. At the end of the day, that actually is the whole deal.

We have discussed consciousness in this weekly blog to the point where I think it probably bores you now, because this is the very biggest of Big Ideas. Once you accept it, then you have wiped out every other idea that might exist, since consciousness is capable of simply thinking all those lesser ideas away. Okay, so then there really is nothing else, no separate religious God, no other Creator, no devil, no science, and nothing else at all to hang around and trouble your mind. And, since objective time does not exist, we don’t even get to ask where consciousness came from, because all that ever exists is Now.

Of course, this ultimate foundational discovery must be anathema to materialist scientists. They are not supposed to be funded to study anything that is not material, so my goodness, an entirely non-material basis for reality is far beyond what they are allowed by their strictly limited profession to even imagine! And yet, this greatest discovery of the entire twentieth century was made by a scientist, a rival to Einstein himself; and he likely in the end must be conceded to have been even greater in terms of his understanding and his discoveries than was Einstein, when it is fully understood that, inevitably, consciousness actually is all there is, and all there was, and all that there ever is going to be. In full truth, nothing whatsoever exists but what we experience as Consciousness and Now.

The One Who most perfectly teaches us the infinite power of consciousness is Jesus. He tells us, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you’” (MT 17:20). Sit quietly for a moment and think about the meaning of those words! Jesus uses the terms “Father” and “Holy Spirit” for the term Consciousness, which is in fact the only Power, because all the gods that were worshiped when He was on earth were monstrously evil, human-created beings that thrived on child-sacrifices and other such horrors. Jesus communed with Spirit in private when He was on earth, and He taught His followers to do the same. He taught His followers to reject all religious teachings, and instead to purify their minds of all negative emotions, and to live forever in nothing but love.

So, I decided to try living Jesus’s Way. Here is our set-up. We all come into these lifetimes on earth with what is estimated to be less than forty percent of our vast, eternal minds. We leave most of our greater minds behind, and then rejoin them almost immediately when our bodies die on earth and we go home; but for living on earth, our earth-minds are stripped-down and set for easy and rapid spiritual learning. We come to earth with life-plans, too, that call for a lot of difficult things to happen to us while we are on earth, so our earth-minds can learn some hard lessons and grow a lot in love, forgiveness, and kindness while we are here. But the problem is that our limited earth-minds are primed to learn so easily, that they also learn a lot of unspiritual things that we don’t want them to learn, like very easy anger, and even on-the-spot fears and hatreds. We learn most of this negative wrong-think in infancy, when we cry for our bottle and see shadows at night; and later on, when we taunt schoolmates for their race or their physical handicaps, and we learn to hate the wrong political party. Because we come to earth with amnesia about what is really going on, we have no idea why we are here, so we teach our minds some very negative habits that weigh us down spiritually, right along with also teaching our minds a lot of what we came to earth hoping to learn spiritually! And, sadly, religions are of little help in fixing this problem, since they all teach fear and guilt in order to keep us in the pews, and those are highly negative emotions spiritually.

Like most people, I entered the later part of my life still carrying some of those same hair-trigger emotional habits that I had absent-minded taught myself throughout my life. Realistically, I had made far less spiritual progress than I would have hoped. So, with help from my dear Thomas, my spirit guide, and using the Gospel teachings of Jesus as a pattern, I drew up a lesson plan for myself that emphasized Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Love. Then I rigorously followed my own lesson plan.

I didn’t realize how stunningly well my lessons were working for me, until one morning when my husband raised his voice at me impatiently, and in fact unjustly. He was wrong about some trivial matter, and we both knew it; and it was no big deal anyway, so to make it go away he just cut me off sharply. If you are a wife of many years’ standing, you likely know the sort of interchange that I am talking about. Well, there was a time when his doing this really would have bothered me, and I might even have shouted back at him. But now, I just mentally shrugged. I was at peace, and I think I even smiled a bit as I changed the subject to something peaceful and friendly. My doing that very much surprised us both!

What had happened was that I had reprogrammed my mind altogether, and in just a few months’ time. It really had been that easy.  I was amazed and delighted!  I  just had proven to myself that our minds really are that easy to re-train. And my dear ones, at this point there is literally nothing that ever can bug me at all. By now, I have designed what I did for myself as a three-month course, and I have seen it do precisely  the same thing for others, just that simply and reliably. Our minds will not presto-change if we only will them to change. But they are so very, extremely lazy! So, if we put up barriers to their old ways of thinking and acting, and also lay before them different, more acceptable paths that they can take instead, they will unhesitatingly take those new and better paths. It really is that simple! And, what might be even more surprising is the fact that these new mental habits become as stubbornly persistent, once we put them into place, as all those old, unacceptable and entirely un-spiritual habits used to be.

Now, I feel peaceful and loving all the time. And I felt this transformation as it was happening within me, as I was doing the actual mental re-training. How very easy it has been to make such a thorough, profound, and complete spiritual transformation! Those old, bad spiritual habits are now altogether gone, and the peaceful and joyously loving new habits have taken over my mind and heart as if they always had been my whole way of being. Now, my dearly beloved Thomas tells me that I have managed to achieve what we afterlife researchers refer to as the fifth level, at the top of the Summerland. He tells me that I will no longer need to reincarnate on earth; although he adds that I will choose to come back one more time, as a teacher. Wow. When Thomas rather casually informed me of all of that one morning, I had to go out to our back deck and simply sit and watch the play of sunlight on grass, and think about this for a while.

By now, our three-month course in retraining your mind has been largely perfected, to the point where it is pretty clear why it works so reliably. I am remaking the materials so they will be easier for people to understand, and to follow. And I apologize to those of you who receive and read these weekly posts, but very soon we will be ending them. I really am sorry, but they take a couple of days each week to write, and I really cannot do both! I feel so deeply called now to teach this course to as many people as we can reach. So, early in the New Year, we will begin to offer it as three-month Zoom classes to as many people as possible.  No matter how old you are, if you take this course seriously, in just a few months’ time, you can clear your mind of all negativity. And in just a couple of years of persistently applying this courses’s simple lessons to your daily life, you can become as elevated spiritually as if you had spent your whole life in a monastery. You even can feel all this wonderful, transformative spiritual growth as it is happening. And it makes you so happy! Then, if you steadily continue this process, you will find when you go home again that you have achieved near the top of the Summerland level spiritually. From there, you can continue on and grow more and more spiritually, in endless love and joy forevermore!

I’d stay in the garden with Him,
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the thought of woe
His voice to me is calling.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
