The Source, Understanding Reality
I often see Internet arguments about whether God exists and what God is, as if life’s most important questions were matters of taste to be debated. In fact, we do know a great deal now about the core creative force, and it is indeed extraordinary; but the more we learn, the more we see that both theists and atheists are missing the point. You might perhaps say they both are right; but also they both are profoundly wrong.
The judgmental Big Guy with the beard and thunderbolts that many people envision when they think of God does not exist. There is no evidence whatsoever for an anthropomorphic God that is anything like the Christian God. And believe me, we have looked for it!
On the other hand, the only thing that exists is the creative force that continuously manifests what we experience as this universe, and every single human mind is indivisibly part of that creative force. Therefore the atheists’ bet is wrong, too. We know now that all that exists is God!
We shouldn’t be surprised to discover that what was believed about God years and centuries ago is wrong. People have become more sophisticated in every other way, so why should our understanding of God be an exception? Actually, what is interesting to me is the fact that Jesus in the Gospels told the primitive people of his day things that have proven in the face of modern evidence to be amazingly accurate.
With humble awareness that our limited earth-minds cannot grasp in detail the objective truth, let’s look at what the evidence suggests is genuinely true about God:
we have that power. As Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted to him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted to you” (MK 11:22-24). It was when I first grasped the implications of this teaching that I began to pray in gratitude affirmations. I say “Thank you” for the gift of whatever I want, and affirm that indeed I already have it, so now my mind works smoothly with the Mind of God of which it is an integral part!
It is possible to come to know the genuine God! During all the decades when I was a zealous Christian, reading the Bible daily, praying on my knees, and living with the thought that God was a stern paterfamilias that I had to find a way to please, I realize now that I never felt close to God. No matter how I tried to get further into it, everything about religion felt external to me in the same way that all human institutions feel external. Religion is laws the way government is laws. You miss church on Sunday and you feel guilty.
It was only when I trusted Jesus enough to leave Christianity and follow Him that I was able to begin to find and know God. I am astonished to tell you that religious ideas about God actually prevent our finding God! They put a false and scary God into our minds that keeps us from coming to know the genuine God at the core of each of us. God is who we really are.
It is difficult to adequately express the joy of coming to know at last the genuine God. I’ve been trying to think of how to help you see the way that finding God feels to me after a lifetime of earnest searching. In fact, this utter joy is ineffable: there really are not sufficient words. Perhaps it feels like home and safety and the certainty of being perfectly loved, very much as a little child must feel before the outside world intrudes. It feels like power beyond imagining, so I know that every least thing that happens works for good in some way that we are too small to see; and it feels like joy so deep and love so complete that you cannot even remember how it felt to know fear.
Two Biblical passages express this feeling well. Philippians 4:7 is how Paul says it: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” But perhaps the ancient words of Deuteronomy 33:27 say it best of all: “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
Finding God means finding those arms and realizing they have been there 
all along. Even though our understanding while we are in bodies is necessarily limited, we are in the presence at last of a Godhead Who loves us so perfectly that God’s very love becomes our greatest challenge! To better understand that love, and to grow to meet it, becomes the beating heart of life and everything that matters to us. That seminal tune from the rock musical, Godspell, says it well: “Day by day, day by day, oh dear Lord three things I pray: to see thee more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow thee more nearly. Day by day….”

Hello Mike! What surprises me most is realizing that I couldn’t have written this post even a year ago. It has taken me a whole lifetime to come home to God! My deepest hope is that somehow I can help others to find the genuine God much sooner than I did. Sending you a hug!

Just thought I would add that with earthquakes, wild fires and flooding across many regions of the planet — and now, “suddenly,” hitting home for us in the U.S. (as if these huge natural events never occurred before), it’s very important to talk about the effects of free will. I know that if we haven’t already, we are about to hear questions about the “wrath of God” or odd musings such as “why would God allow such terrible things to happen to good people.” I know I don’t need to say that to you, or maybe even on this blog, but I’m just writing it for the record.
It really is surprising how many people – even purportedly religious people – consider weather events to be rooted in God’s anger. How little they understand about God!!

Hello Roberta, I wrote to you in July when I had lost my beloved dog Noodle and you assured me he was now young and healthy and that I would see him again when my time came. I found your comments to be hugely reassuring.
Sadly I lost my daughter 2 weeks ago and am devastated as I rushed to Australia from London and she was on life support for 2 weeks but didn’t regain consciousness, she was only 44.
I have read 3 of your books and one of them mentions hospitals in the Summerland. Why are hospitals necessary if we all revert to being healthy when we pass over? I would like to think of my daughter as free of all the medical intervention she endured in life. Thank you for your help, Linda.
Linda, my name is Lola and I’m taking the liberty of answering your question. The “hospitals” in the afterlife are for rest and reflection, not medical care or procedures. Many souls go to these places temporarily in order to help them adjust to the new surroundings. They are mostly used by those who had a long lingering illness. They are in no way to be feared, as they are places of nurture. Your daughter sounds like she may fall into this category, but again, these places are in no way an actual hospital. They are strictly for rest, adjustment and restoration.

The most recent person of my acquaintance that I know for certain spent time in one of these glorious retreat spaces died of severe MS, and he spent just a couple of earth-months there to ensure that he was altogether recovered from the effects his physical handicaps had on his mental outlook. The fact that these places exist, and that they are so beautiful and so full of love, is a great gift to us all!
I agree. Their existence proves that help is available. Roberta, can I ask you how you found out that the MS patient spent time there? Was it through a medium? Just curious, as my knowledge of them came from the writings of Lenore Piper – one of the most fantastic mediums of the 20th century. These places have been mentioned for years by many people who are and were considered credible.
The topic of these post-healing hospitals is a common one in the old communications – early 20th century primarily – where I cut my teeth doing this research. So I wasn’t surprised when I tried to reach my friend there through a medium soon after his death, and I was told that he was in rehab, learning to be healthy again, and doing very well.

Hello Jo! There is no marriage in the afterlife, and we will have a lot of people around us with whom we are very close – including spouses and lovers from prior lifetimes – so there are many spouses who seem to move on from one another after death. But the evidence suggests that most of those who die married maintain their close relationships with one another and live together after death. Some do a lot of things together; some do not. But if you and your husband have been close here, then you can assume that will continue after your deaths!
Thank you Lola for your quick reply. It’s been such a horrendous couple of months and I have a desperate need to make sense of all that’s happened. My daughter was such a kind, helpful, cheerful person and her husband who has Parkinson’s feels his life is over. I actually feel lucky that I have a strong belief in the afterlife and am wondering if it is too soon to make an appointment with the British Spiritualist Society in the hope of contacting Michelle or Noodle. I actually know what you are going through, as I have been down the same path with the death of my husband and dearly beloved dog, almost back to back. I could give you dozens of names of American mediums, but you don’t live here. I can say that the Scotch medium, Tony Stockwell, is without a doubt outstanding and he often appears in London. He also does it via skype if you have it. Another good one is Craig Hamilton who is based somewhere near London. Hi Lola, I didn’t hear back from Tony Stockwell office but did have a reading with Jane Hamilton Parker last Saturday. She told me a few things but they were very general and a lot of things were wrong. Maybe it was too soon. I will try Tony Stockwell again as I have a good feeling about him. I’ve read his books recently and feel he is the one for me. Please wish me luck as he is so incredibly popular and busy I will probably have passed over by the time an appointment becomes available!!
It is amazing that the words of Jesus, that have survived for 2,000 years, so closely align with what we know is true today. Thanks for reminding us and tying it all together.

Dear Roberta, your blog has awakened within me a spiritual awareness that I did not know I possessed. What Jesus tried to convey to us is so clear to me now the way you explain it. I feel uplifted and I am at inner peace which goes beyond any physical senses.
I admire your selfless determination to spread spiritual truth to as many people as you can reach. Please continue to do so. You have a God-given talent that should not be wasted. I am confident that you will reach the level of blue light (the 6th) in the afterlife. (I hope I don’t sound too gushy, but that’s the only way I can express what I honestly mean.)
I have had a very difficult year (you helped me to ease my grieve after my son passed). I am also still grieving the recent loss of my beloved cat, Ginger. However, I count this year as one of my most important years of my life (I am almost 90), and I would not want to ever have missed it. I feel I have reached spiritual growth that I didn’t know I was capable of.

The argument I always get from my mother is if there is a loving God how could there be such evil in the world? Oh, how I wish she understood the Bible better. She read it cover to cover, she knows the scriptures better than me! But yet she does not understand who God is and His ways! She does not know how to tap into His strength, joy no matter what is going on around us. I am always praying that she join me in my journey of finding God!
Thank you for your thoughts! Your mother’s complaint is one that I hear often, and it has an easy pair of answers:
1) Virtually all of our lives are planned by us with the help of our guides, and since our whole purpose in entering these lifetimes is to achieve as much spiritual growth here as possible, we deliberately plan into our lives the very problems and tragedies that we are sure means that God doesn’t love us. Especially including a serious illness, the death of a child, all the very worst things. Since our eternal bodies are healthy, and of course no one ever really dies, all these personal tragedies are not tragedies at all, but they are nothing worse than the machines in a gym that we use to strengthen our physical muscles. These earth-tragedies are what help us to strengthen our spiritual muscles. It is pretty much that simple!
2) All the evil in the world is the aggregate result of people repeatedly choosing fear, anger, and hatred over love. It’s a matter of spiritual physics. Jesus came to tell us how to raise our personal spiritual vibrations enough to bring the Kingdom of God on earth, and it will take just a small percentage of us doing that to raise this planet’s entire vibration. It is up to each of us to do our part and work earnestly on our own spiritual growth!
