To our prosperity. To good health and happiness. And, most important… To life! To life! L’chaim! L’chaim, l’chaim, to life!
Here’s to the father I’ve tried to be. Here’s to the bride-to-be. Drink l’chaim, to life!
To life, l’chaim. L’chaim, l’chaim, to life. Life has a way of confusing us,
Blessing and bruising us. Drink l’chaim, to life!
God would like us to be joyful, Even when our hearts lie Panting on the floor. How much more can we be joyful
When there’s really something to be joyful for? To life, to life, l’chaim! – Sheldon Harnick (1924-2023), from “To Life” (1964)
Among those who did read our blog that was posted here last week, or who had it emailed to them wherever they might be in the world, there was no one who kindly commented here about that post who seemed to immediately see any of the many concerns that might arise from the wonderful conclusion that my Thomas and I drew from what was some pretty convincing evidence. It was my primary spirit guide’s and my own shared conclusion, and we are confident that eventually our conclusion will be borne out scientifically, that what we all experience as Consciousness, as human awareness, is in fact the only thing that objectively exists. Consciousness is the universal Sculptor, and Consciousness is also the Clay.
Judging from the comments that our beloved readers left for us last week, our primary conclusion from the evidence delighted them all! We had no dissenters, loudly posting here their points of dissent; but instead, our commenters, who are admittedly perhaps more sophisticated than are most general readers, drew the obvious, joyful conclusion that just One Consciousness in existence means that you and I are inextricably part of one another; and also, we are all part of the one perfectly loving God’s One Consciousness. All of which is perfectly and joyously true! But as we think more deeply about what is certainly true, we must admit that the most stunning and amazing scientific conclusion that humankind is likely ever to drawn, in all of human history, is true, yes indeed; but it also has some potentially pretty unsettling implications. Omigosh! Here are just the first five of them that have occurred to us:
Does the fact that Consciousness is primary and pre-existing, and there actually is nothing else, mean that everything that is made of matter must by definition be conscious and aware? This is the first question that I was concerned about, when I first understood the basic, underlying fact that Consciousness actually is primary! It’s both the Sculptor and the Clay? But the stones along your garden walk clearly are not conscious, are they? Certainly, they are not conscious in the same way that you and I are. Even when Michelangelo sculpted his statue of David, his creating what looked like a human being didn’t imbue the stone that he was sculpting with Consciousness. No, simply carving the shape of a man from a stone, or molding a piece of clay, does not give mattermater human awareness.
Does life itself come from Consciousness? Scientists have been diligently searching for the source of life for as long as my Thomas and I have been paying attention. Their efforts have for a long time looked actually laughable to afterlife researchers, in point of fact; we used to joke to one another that scientists were pleading, “Just give us one free miracle, and we’ll explain the rest!” Which is where the title of this blog post comes from. The purely materialist-scientific approach to solving questions always requires at least one free miracle somewhere! Their most consistent scientific theory about the origin of life has long been that just putting the precisely right chemical soup into the right pool of water at precisely the right temperature, and zapping it with lighting, would – zap! – most likely have been what what first produced life. It would have made just the most basic possible living cells at first, they thought; then somehow magically those cells would have assembled themselves into ever more complex creatures. That’ll work! Somehow. Those plain and simple cells would, somehow, and of necessity all on their own, have taken it into their mindless selves to specialize to meet all the various creature needs, to become more and ever more complex, always all on their own, mind you, because no thought-out design can ever be imagined to have happened. Those first cells would have combined even more, and so on and on. Those old popular-science magazine articles looked a lot like eighth-grade science project reports. Then, in 1953, there were what were considered to be three big scientific advances, which now, more than seventy years farther on, some materialist scientists even today still hopefully believe just might have put them right on the edge of an impending breakthrough in their discovery of how life was born. The first of those seminal advances came in April of 1953, when James Watson and Francis Crick published a paper on DNA which advanced a new understanding of how the double helix form of DNA could help to explain how life replicates itself. The second breakthrough came three weeks later, when news broke of the Miller-Urey experiment, which showed how a cocktail of chemicals could spontaneously generate the amino acids that are vital to building the molecules of life. But then, there really has been nothing much in the way of further news on the origin-of-life front in the seventy-odd years since, and it is pretty clear by now that nothing much more is very likely ever to happen. (Scroll down on this link to find a video of a sad materialist scientist talking with a scientist who espouses the obviously better theory of Intelligent Design.) My Thomas and I are now confident that life is a characteristic inherent in the Consciousness that makes up all of reality, so the answer to this second question is Yes.
Are animals conscious and aware? We know that some animals certainly are conscious and aware. Most domestic dogs are remarkably loving and loyal companion animals that can be trained to do amazing things; although after I have lived with cats around for most of my life, and seen some of them actually tell lies right to my face, I do have some doubts on their score (I’m kidding!). And having owned one particular horse from the age of six months until he was almost thirty years old, and believing now that he was probably the truest friend that I ever will have, I think that even barnyard and wild animals can be conscious and aware. There is a point, however, on the animal intelligence and complexity scale below which animals become too simple to be either conscious or aware. Single-celled animals are certainly neither. So the answer here must be, well, Some Yes, but Some No.
Are plants conscious and aware? Here our answer might amaze and confound you! I grew up living inside thirty acres of woodland. Then I married a hermit, so we reared our children immersed in one hundred and sixty wooded acres right next to a gigantic state forest, where for many years I rode or drove my equine friend almost daily. Now I spend most of my time surrounded by houseplants in a bow window that looks out on beautiful groves of trees. So, I do love greenery! And I urge you to do yourself a big favor, and read the most transformational book that I ever have read in my life, which is The Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. I first read that amazing book in 1973, its year of first publication, and I didn’t realize until years later the way it had formed a basis for my whole fifty years of afterlife research. It opened my eyes to a deeper awareness that nothing ever is as it seems. It primed me to accept the evidence that what we experience as human consciousness is, oh yes it certainly is, universal! And never again, for the rest of my life, have I cut a piece of celery or grated a carrot without wincing. The fact that such a seminal masterwork which is so fundamental to our understanding of life has been steadfastly ignored by mainstream scientists because it doesn’t fit their predetermined narrative was my first clue that the mainstream science emperor is, sadly, altogether naked. And that science emperor appears now likely to remain naked, not only for the rest of our lives, but perhaps naked even for our children’s and our grandchildren’s lives as well. Yes indeed, every living plant of any size is in fact on some level conscious, and also even quite possibly aware! They also do indeed communicate with one another pretty effectively.
Can AI (Artificial Intelligence) ever become actually conscious? This is right now a hotly debated question! In truth, no matter what tests are proposed, the modern, well-programmed conversational versions of AI are able to mimic normally intelligent and regular people so well, even today, that it is easy to imagine that very soon they will be very hard indeed to tell from actually fully conscious and aware human beings. But will the inert matter of which those AI thingies are made ever become actually conscious and aware? My own prediction is, of course, No. But, who actually yet can tell?
There are much weirder questions that we also might ask here. Like, for example, whether we can learn to play Mozart more perfectly by eating the expert fingers of a dead concert pianist. And, you know, there was once a time in my life when I would have written a much longer blog post, with many more ever more peculiar bullet-point questions! But, increased age does bring with it a greater need for both brevity and clarity.
So, let us begin to consider now, and at last, our own vast, Big Picture. My dear friends, oddly and surprisingly and with little fanfare, this book, and a few others like it, which purport to prove the existence of God scientifically, are now quietly climbing the Amazon charts. Having come to far more perfectly understand at last how the whole of our greater reality actually works, I know that the following amazing fact is, absolutely and wonderfully, true! You and I and everyone else who now lives, and also everyone who ever has lived on earth, are all inextricably part of one another, and in the same way we all also are part of the One true and eternal Godhead. We are, in the most fundamental and the truest sense, eternal by our very nature. And the more we perfectly fill ourselves with only love, with nothing else but love, the closer and the more complete is our absolute union with the One eternal Godhead. This is the only truth, my darlings. And because at last I understand this truth, and the absolute joy, the love and laughter, the silliness and fun that comes from being certain that your own life really is eternal, and it is lived in the entirely nonjudgmental radiance of that beautiful face to our left – yes, really, that face – since l live in the wondrous joy of this certainty, I want you to share in my certainty now. And you so easily can! My remaining time on earth is limited, so I am beginning now to create a more permanent version of all that I have learned during my time on earth, so I will be able to continue to teach here, even after I have returned to our universal home. I will have more to say about this new project soon.
Meanwhile, my beloved friends, please understand that genuine, eternal peace and joy really is possible for everyone, and so easily! And…
May all your futures be pleasant ones, Not like our present ones. Drink l’chaim, to life!
To life, l’chaim, L’chaim. l’chaim, l’chaim, to life. It takes a wedding to make us say “Let’s live another day” Drink l’chaim, to life!
We’ll raise a glass and sip a drop of schnapps In honor of the great good luck that favored you. We know that when good fortune favors two such men, It stands to reason we deserve it, too!
To us and our good fortune. Be happy, be healthy, long life! And if our good fortune never comes, Here’s to whatever comes. Drink l’chaim, to life! – Sheldon Harnick (1924-2023), from “To Life” (1964)
Thank you for coming here and spreading Jesus’ teachings Roberta. I am so happy to know you have grown to the point you will never need to return. We really appreciate all you have done to help all of us grow.
Roberta, I must second what Tom says. I am very thankful to have found you, and I am a faithful weekly reader of your blog. I have learned much about Jesus and our life here on Earth and in the afterlife. It seems I can never get enough, especially knowledge about Jesus. My mind has expanded in many ways, and I am now open to and accepting of ideas that I might never have accepted in the past. Your writing makes perfect sense to me. What peace you must have in knowing that you will not have to come back to Earth school again. Congratulations!

Dear Roberta,
Thank you for everything that you have shared with us over the years.
Interestingly the truth, the ones, is the ultimate paradox – ultimately the simple truth that is also so complex depending upon your vantage point.
Thanks for taking us to 30,000 ft to finally see the simplicity of it all!
John Lennon had it right – “Love is all there is” !
Many Thanks!
Love,
JP
